This week Subsoniq focuses on the dope mix/remix/blend project Shaolin Jazz (you can download the album for free at that link). This project takes jazz music and fuses it with the essence of Wu-Tang. Props to DJ 2-Tone and Gerald Watson for putting together such a dope concept and making it come to life! Throughout the show we highlight tracks from the album and mix in some of the newest progressive hip hop. R.I.P. Dilla

Exactly five years ago today we lost one of the greatest producers that ever lived (don’t sleep he was nice on the mic too). We’ve done lots of Dilla tributes over the years. In particular our three hour “For The Love” tribute that featured Q-Tip, Common, Questlove, and many more! It is one of our proudest moments as a show and it was an honor to put together that tribute for such a great musician. This year we found out our friends over at http://wonkabeats.tumblr.com/ unearthed the second hour of our “Dilla Day” tribute that aired on satellite radio back in 2008. The full set features Kev Brown, Kaimbr, Flex Mathews, Raw Poetic (of Panacea) and other dope D.C. based emcees, musicians, and producers paying tribute to the great Jay Dee and his entire catalog while being backed by a live band.  http://tinyurl.com/4cm574z
