Apollo Brown on Subsoniq

There are few producers who had a bigger 2010 than Apollo Brown. From his remix/solo album “The Reset” to the collaborative effort between him and Boog Brown “The Brown Study” all the way up to the official release of the album “Gas Mask” from the collective known as The Left (Apollo Brown, Journalist 103, and DJ Soko). This week K-Murdock and KB chop it up with Apollo about that incredible year, who his all time favorite producer is, what the “Detroit Sound” means to him, and if 2011 will top his 2010?

From The Vaults: Ben Harper on Subsoniq

A few times over the years on Subsoniq we’ve had artists outside the realm of hip hop swing by the show, pick out some songs, and sit down to chop it up with us. Back in 2006 Ben Harper stopped by the show to do just that! He was also nice enough later that year to personally endorse Panacea’s Rawkus debut “Ink Is My Drink”

R.I.P. Dilla

Exactly five years ago today we lost one of the greatest producers that ever lived (don’t sleep he was nice on the mic too). We’ve done lots of Dilla tributes over the years. In particular our three hour “For The Love” tribute that featured Q-Tip, Common, Questlove, and many more! It is one of our proudest moments as a show and it was an honor to put together that tribute for such a great musician. This year we found out our friends over at http://wonkabeats.tumblr.com/ unearthed the second hour of our “Dilla Day” tribute that aired on satellite radio back in 2008. The full set features Kev Brown, Kaimbr, Flex Mathews, Raw Poetic (of Panacea) and other dope D.C. based emcees, musicians, and producers paying tribute to the great Jay Dee and his entire catalog while being backed by a live band.  http://tinyurl.com/4cm574z
